Welcome back for another great year of fishing on PA's beautiful streams. Some important dates to remember...March 30, 2013 is the opening of trout season in the Southeast region on PA. Also, April 13, 2013 is the opening day of trout season throughout all of PA. Thank you to everyone who sent me an email and for helping to make this site so popular. I've posted the 2013 dates for most of the adult and kid derbies that I know of at this time. I'm currently working to get info on some new tournaments I've heard about and will post the info as soon as I confirm it. Let me know if you hear of any that I have missed. We look forward to seeing you along the streams!
Well guys My fiance Karen, and best friend Bill went to Indian Caverns for a fun day of fishing to check out the great Spruce Creek. I must say all of those natives at that size were fun and amazing to catch. It was like having Walnut Creek in our back yard during the steelhead run. It is worth the time to go fishing there. You can take the kids, family or go by yourself. There is no price to high to pay for fishing like that. Also to say you fished where the presidents go to fish is a honor. Just this year President Carter and President Bush were up fishing on Spruce Creek. I can not wait till next sat for their first ever fishing tourney. IF you were not one of the lucky ones to get in, please stop by and by chances on the lifetime fishing pass. You can not beat that. Fishing there anytime you want for you and a friend for the rest of your life for free. All I can say is WOW. The people there are so friendly. The manager Neal always makes time to come see you when you are there. There will be a kids derby there in either August or Sept. More details to come. Please all feel free to stop by Sat June 30th.
The first ever Indian Caverns trout fishing tourney. This will be held June 30th 2012. There will be two time slots for fishing. You must call in to reserve your spot. They have a link on their website. Just google Indian Caverns. They also will be chancing off a lifetime fishing pass. One ticket cost 5 dollars or 3 for ten. If any of you have ever fished or heard of spruce creek this should be a fun one. The size of the fish in there is unreal. The one they have named is a 6 and a half pound brown trout. This is going to be a awesome tourney hope to see all of you there.
Wow is all I can say about this trout tourney. Each year it keeps getting better and better. More people, more good times, and best of all nice people. Friday afternoon it began with everyone showing up with tents and campers. Around 4pm they started to fill up the stocking trucks with roughly around 1200 fish, 330 of which were tagged. Everyone had a great time Friday night hanging out and catching up on old times. This being the 5th annual tourney they have held it was the best one yet by far. Sat morning arrived, everyone casting in at 6am hoping to catch a tag. My first cast I hooked a big one. After a long fight we finally got him netted. After being measured I found out he was 21 and half inches long. All of my friends also landed tags. For all the people there, there was a great deal of respect for each and every fisherman. Great job Tom, Carl, Brownie and everyone else that put this wonderful tourney together. I can not wait till next years they are already talking more tags and more money prizes. If you have the time be sure to take your little ones to their kids derby on sunday May 27th. They give away great prizes. Also there is a Adult derby there on June 10th. 10 dollars to get in and it pays cash for the heaviest stringers. These guys know how to have great trout tourneys. BTW, I did win the biggest fish contest. My fish held from Saturday morning at 6am till the end. Time to get ready for the Kish Creek tourney this weekend Hope to
This was my first time fishing the Spring Mills Trout Tourney. I must say I had a great time. The people there were very friendly. We arrived at the club house Friday around noon. After registering we were offered some good homemade ham popeye. They answered any questions you had. Me and my fiance then went out and scouted the stream. It was low and clear but had some nice deep riffles and holes. After we picked out some nice spots we waited and watched them stock. They floated almost all the fish which was nice and spread them out. I helped out carrying some buckets to the floats and the couple spots we bucket stocked. Then it was time for the waiting the game. We set up where we were going to fish. Met a lot of nice people while waiting. As 7 am approached a lot of anxious anglers waiting for the siren to sound. Saturday turned out to be a good day with my fiance landing two tags and I landed 4. We met some really cool guys also. Hats off to Dan and Jake really good guys and I can not wait to fish with them again. Everyone was laughing and have a good time on Saturday. You could barely tell that the starting temp was around freezing. Saturday wrap up I caught 4 tags worth 75 total, My fiance caught 2 tags worth 40 total and my buddy Ron caught 2 tags for a total of 20. The first day totals saw 61 percent of the tags caught. It was a good day. Ending day one the big fish was a 20 incher. Going into Sunday there was 146 tags left with the 500 dollar and 250 tags still out there. Also two big fish that could beat the 20 incher. First cast of the morning I caught another tag. Then the guy below me caught one. I later lost a couple more tags I really need to tie my knots better on my trout magnets. While sitting there people from the club were walking around asking for suggestions to improve the tourney. You can not ask for a nicer tourney. My fiance and me had a blast and left with a total of 7 tags for a total of 140 dollars. The best part was the friends we made. Great people, lots of fun and memories that last a lifetime. That is what it is all about. Ill be posting picture either today or tommorrow from this tourney. I
Hello fisherman, so the first big tagged tourney of the year has past. Congrats to the Bald Eagle Sportsman Club for putting on another fine tagged trout tourney this year. The weather was somewhat cooperative. The water conditions were not great but the dedicated fisherman found many of the tags. The last report I heard was that well over 50 percent of the tags were caught with the biggest one being 20 and 3/4 inches. I will have picture to load a little later. As for me I caught 10 the first day none with tags. The second day was a nice change of pace for my fiance caught her first tag at this tourney along with two others to end the day with 3 tags. I caught two tags on sunday with us leaving the tourney with 5 tags combines. Im glad the rain came in saturday it really helped the creek. As far as my friends went my one friend Rob caught a 16 1/2 inch Brownie that looks like a tank, his buddy Brandon caught the 16 inch Paly that was in creeks meet, Our other buddy Dave caught 4 tags the last we spoke with him. A shout out to my Buddy Bill who missed the tourney because his wife is in the hospital who is also my cousin, Hope you get well soon Colleen. The tourney was well run, and aside for the low water conditions it was a great tourney. Hats off to the Bald Eagle Sportsmans club. I had a blast made many new friends which always makes this tourney great. The food was good as always and a special thanks to Yeckleys Bait and Tackle for selling bait on the spot this year. There is alot of promise for this tourney to come and I feel everyone should try it, you will love it. Lots of fish, good friends and times that will be remembered always you can not beat this tourney guys. Now on to next week fisherman have a choice to make this weekend. You have the Spring Mills tourney on saturday and sunday on penns creek, you have the St Marys tourney in which they stock all Brownies in this sat and sunday, and you have the one day tagged tourney in Cassandra Pa between Lilly and Portage that benefits the Portage Vol Fire Company. Also for you fisherman that like to take your kids out there is the Port Matilda kids fishing derby on Saturday the 28th and the TACO kids fishing derby in Tyrone on sat the 28th. As for me and my fiance we will be attending the Cassandra tourney on Sunday. Hope to see alot of you there. Welcome all to the first website just for Pennsylvania Trout tourney's and sports shows. This section is set up like a blog but I would love to see us use it more like a discussion board. Tips on the site, pointers on dates for tourneys, or sports shows, or even rate a tourney that I have posted. I want to get info out about all the tourneys some of which I dont even know about. I researched the ones I found so far, some of which I am just waiting on dates. I feel this will be a productive site. As I stated treat it like a discussion board. There is plenty more to come for this site like pics from tourneys, and sports shows, and Im going to add a section for erie steelhead also.
